Charles Harwood Laboratory Relocation – St. Croix, USVI
J. Benton Construction successfully completed the relocation of a Germfree® double-height BSL-3 laboratory and four auxiliary office trailers from the former Charles Harwood Medical Complex site. The project included construction of all supporting site infrastructure—utilities, foundations, and service connections—to fully accommodate the specialized facilities. A new BSL-2 laboratory was also constructed abutting the BSL-3 unit, with a custom steel bridge connecting the two for secure and efficient access. This complex effort required extensive planning and precise heavy crane coordination to safely disassemble, transport, and reinstall the biocontainment units. J. Benton also delivered an EMS services office as part of the expanded site. Completed with efficiency and technical precision, the project highlights J. Benton’s capability to deliver high-stakes, mission-critical infrastructure from the ground up.
